Cancelation Policy

What if a guest needs to cancel because of an emergency?
If a guest needs to cancel due to an emergency, we may be able to issue a refund. Please see below for details on how cancellations are handled under various circumstances.

Overview
Our Extenuating Circumstances Policy explains how we manage cancellations when unforeseen events beyond your control arise after booking, making it impractical or illegal to complete your reservation. This policy applies to all reservations made through AlgarveStop.

When this policy permits cancellation, it takes precedence over the standard cancellation terms. Guests affected by a covered event can cancel their reservation and may receive a cash refund, travel credit, or other considerations depending on the situation. Hosts impacted by a covered event can cancel without penalties, although their calendars may be blocked for the affected dates.

What events are covered?
The following situations, referred to as “Events,” are covered under this policy if they occur after booking and were unforeseen at the time of booking, preventing or legally prohibiting the completion of the reservation:

  • Changes to Government Travel Requirements: Unexpected changes to visa or passport requirements imposed by a government agency that prevent travel to the destination. This does not cover lost or expired travel documents.
  • Declared Emergencies and Epidemics: Local or national emergencies, epidemics, pandemics, or public health emergencies declared by a government. Endemic diseases or common conditions in the area are not covered.
  • Government Travel Restrictions: Travel bans imposed by a government agency that prevent travel to, stay at, or return from the listing location. This does not include non-binding travel advisories or government guidance.
  • Military Actions and Other Hostilities: Acts of war, terrorism, civil unrest, or other hostilities.
  • Natural Disasters: Severe weather events, natural disasters, and large-scale outages of essential utilities. Common or foreseeable weather conditions for the area are not covered.

What is not covered?
Situations not covered by this policy include, but are not limited to:

  • Unexpected illness or injury
  • Jury duty, court appearances, or military duties
  • Non-mandatory travel advisories or government guidance
  • Event cancellations or rescheduling
  • Transportation disruptions unrelated to a covered Event

If you cancel a reservation for reasons not covered by this policy, refunds will be issued according to the standard cancellation terms.

Standard Cancellation Terms

  • Within the First Month After Booking: Guests are eligible for a full refund if they cancel within the first month after booking.
  • After the First Month: If you cancel after the first month, we will refund 50% of the booking value due to office and expense costs.

How Long Does It Take to Get a Refund?
Refunds are processed immediately upon cancellation and usually appear within 3-5 business days. However, in some cases, it may take up to 15 days to reflect on your original payment method. For certain countries like Brazil and India, it may take up to 2 months for the refund to arrive.
